We need women who are so strong they can be gentle, highly educated yet humble, so fierce and can still be compassionate, so passionate yet rational, and so disciplined they can be free. It’s incredible to see incredible and talented women entrepreneurs among us every day who work hard irrespective of the hurdles and gas ceiling present in different industries.
One of the many incredible women is Shradha Sharma, who is an inspiration to many young ladies. She is a successful entrepreneur and the creator of the Yourstory platform that shares stories of young entrepreneurs whose stories need to be heard and deserve attention. She originally comes from Patna, where she spent most of her childhood and completed her graduation from St. Stephen’s College, New Delhi. Her career began to rocket after her first break with CNBC, TV18 as assistant vice president after studying communications at MICA, Ahmedabad. There was no stopping her after that, as she was accredited as the most prominent storyteller in the Indian digital space. She has also worked as a brand ambassador for the Times of India
While working for CNBC, Shradha had the idea of creating a platform where young entrepreneurs could share their struggles and success stories. YourStory started with an investment of 2 lakhs that has grown into a venture worth USD 437k today, and it has published more than 72,000 articles to date in 12 Indian languages. It has more than 1.1 million readers per month with 12.5-15 million page views and 200 million reaches among people.
As good as it sounds, creating YourStory was not easy; there were many setbacks that Shradha had to overcome. Many entrepreneurs backed out when she left CNBC, society, and people told her to do the glorious job instead of doing this. Amidst all this, she lost her mother and hit a rough patch. However, she seemed to have only one reason to continue – her passion for bringing out stories worth attention too.
With her excellence, perseverance, and art of communication, she overcame all the obstacles. She now has more than 100 crewmembers, received investments from legendary Ratan Tata, Mohandas Pai, and the University of Berkeley. She has received awards and is said to be one of the most searched CEOs on LinkedIn. Her secret is never to limit oneself and wait on external validation; instead, believe in yourself and have strong willpower to make your dreams turn into reality.
