If you’re that woman whose platter is full of her full-time job, personal life, social life, and family life, and you seem to always be art of balancing, then this is for you. Here are a few ways to get out of the dharam-sankat of work-life balance and actually make time for a meaningful lifestyle.

1. Don’t Make place for Time Wasters

Spending an hour on Facebook seems like the common occurrence of a modern woman. But what we don’t seem to realize is that we often don’t make place for the more important things like spending time with our child or spouse. We’re so often inefficiently shuffling between texts and calls and emails. We waste so much time online. How to stop this:

  • Put off all phone notifications and only use when you have to
  • Take out unnecessary social media.
  • Make a specific time and only use your phone during that time.
2.Set Priorities

“What do you really want in life?” Take a minute to answer that question. Is it a well-raised child? A secure family? A booming social media? A business? When you know what’s most important, you know what to put most of your time in. What you do more of becomes better. Make time for the important things first, and it is okay to cut out on things that are not necessarily as important.

3.Plan and Prepare

There’s a lot to plan when it comes to running the house. Here are a few things you need to plan in advance to reduce daily hassles.

  1. Meal planning
  2. Laundry
  3. Preparing for festivals
  4. Home decor and cleanliness
  5. Kids – their studies, etc.

It is very helpful when you plan ahead of time. That way, you avoid last-minute confusion, chaos and you’re able to make the best of everything. In case you didn’t know, Good moms have great management skills.

4.Make Lists

A great tip for planning purposes- at work or at home. Making lists is super helpful. They clear your mind, help you sort things, and break down goals that seem unachievable. If you’re not usually used to functioning well under pressure, you can forget things. Multitasking and working continuously could jumble your brain. Making a to-do list can be of great use. You won’t easily forget, your day will be planned well and as a result, you won’t waste any time. Here are lists that are common to households:

  1. Groceries to be bought
  2. Upcoming events in the month of ______.
  3. Daily to-do list
  4. Dinner/ lunch ideas
  5. Set realistic and achievable goals

After you have prioritized, you need to choose wisely where to put your attention and energy. Be very realistic about your goals at work and at home. Sometimes, it might simply not be possible to manage all the duties in your house while working a full-time job. You might need domestic help. So, don’t fool yourself by saying that it will be okay. Whatever you choose to do, make sure that those goals are realistic and you’re practically able to achieve them.

6.Set out Specific times for family:

If you work in the private sector, you might be well-versed with the fact that companies eat up a lot of our time even outside the marked hours. So as much as you can’t help that, you can set boundaries for your family time. No matter what happens, you need to fix a particular time where you leave gadgets and work aside just to engage with your family.

7.Form family traditions that are special and meaningful

Stemming from the last point, you can try making wonderful memories with your family and form traditions that mean something to everyone. This might include:

  • Playing games together
  • Watching movies
  • Going out to dinner
  • Cooking together and making something that everybody likes
  • Taking a road trip or a long drive
8.Build flexibility into your schedule

As mothers and wives, you are an important part of your family. They could need you anytime, and just being there can hugely make a difference. That’s why it is recommended to keep your schedule, more or less, flexible and movable. This means that you are able to shift tasks, make time for emergency activities and that you’re not tied up with any fierce commitment other than your family.

9.Plan your Day:

As I mentioned before, we, as mothers, have the whole house on our minds all the time. There’s so much to do every day; you can forget some things sometimes. Thus, planning your day is a great choice to be productive and efficient. When your day is planned, you don’t have to waste time thinking of what to do. You won’t have to waste your mental energy making decisions. Once you plan a day, you can go through it blindly and still fulfill all that’s to be done.

10.Make time for Self-care

You can work for yourself and your family, but if you don’t work on yourself, it could be harmful. There are toxic mindsets about the ideal woman—the kind who gives herself up for her family and wipes out all self-interest and joy. As a woman in the 21st century, we know that’s not the way it works. Make time for self-care and take time to check your mental, physical and emotional health. Use your free time to try new things for yourself, do what you really like doing and that which enriches your soul. This could be:

  • Exercise or mediation
  • Art, crafts, or paintings
  • Cooking or baking
  • Watching a good movie
  • Reading
  • Taking an online course about something you like

“Self-care is, fundamentally, about bringing art of balancing back to a life that has grown imbalanced from too many commitments or responsibilities.” – Robyn L. Gobin, The self-care prescription. To conclude, there will always be issues with the game of balance. It’s like you’re standing on a rope. You have to live within the dynamic tension of both worlds. Art of balancing is an acquired skill, and everyone is capable of doing it. “Time and art of balancing the two most difficult things to have control over, yet they are both the things that we do control.
