Anushka’s Stylish Re-Definition Of Maternity Fashion

Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma and her husband, Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli announced in August that they were expecting their first bundle of joy in January 2021. Since this announcement, the entire Bollywood and cricket fraternity and Indian Janta has been abuzz about this imminent arrival and have showered the couple with their love, blessings, and good wishes. Anushka is renowned for her unparallel acting skills and giving some stellar hits on the silver screen, but what Anushka’s Stylish also makes positive headlines for is her unique sense of style, and pregnancy has not stopped the style diva from expressing her intimate and comfortable yet chic fashion sense. She has always been clear about what her clothing entails, she always wants to be comfortable in what she is wearing in her own space, and it should be a reflection of her innate self.

Oversized T-shirts and boxed dresses have always been her comfort zone. Still, she has followed a different path for her maternity clothing and resorted to bold prints, floral embroidery, ruffles, and pussy bow collars. One such fashionable example was on display in her recent visit to Yashraj Studios. She pulled off a yellow mini dress designed by Anita Dongre featuring balloon sleeves and intricate embroidery. Its relaxed cutlets the baby bump breathe, and the bright color instantly boosts your mood. She completed the look with a pair of sneakers and golden hoops, and this dress is beyond maternity wear.

Another classic example of Anushka’s Stylish comfort preference is the pre-baby red date dress she wore while watching her husband Viral Kohli in IPL 2020 in UAE this year.  It contained a light-weight breezy fabric, but the sleeves’ tie-up detailing made it very chic and stylish. She complimented the dress with her signature golden hoops, a matching bracelet, and a sleek wristwatch.

Anushka’s Stylish made yet another style statement when she was spotted in a shooting location with another breezy dress. This time, it was a cotton teal ankle-length dress that was not completely anti-fit and featured a bandeau-style asymmetrical strap. It came with an empire waist showing off her beautifully growing baby bump. Complimenting her look with just a pair of sandals this time, she kept accessories to the minimum, which enabled her pregnancy glow to take center stage.

Anushka’s black cotton number with floral embroidery by Pinnacle by Shruti Sancheti made headlines in Dubai for IPL 2020. She wore this bohemian-inspired dress for a night out with her beau, and it has a gathered waistline, which was ideal for her growing belly. It also featured contrasting thread work all over her sleeves and a buttoned-up front, and Anushka complimented it with beaded hoops, making an impact with minimum effort.

Continuing her maternity fashion extravaganza in Dubai on the eve of her husband Virat Kohli’s birthday on a yacht, she was seen in a peachy-pink dress featuring delicate florals. The multi-tiered detailing was exquisitely done, and it added volume to her look. Anushka didn’t feel like accessorizing for this dress at all. It was yet another subtle choice of her high impact maternity dresses that she has been sporting lately.

Going one step forward and upward in her journey of rejuvenating maternity fashion, Anushka’s Stylish turned them cover girl for the January 2021 issue of Vogue and also turned quite a few heads with her sizzling photoshoot for this feature. She was seen wearing a custom Sabyasachi ensemble, which featured a bra, pajama, and a trench coat in a buttery soft ecru graced by multi-stoned and intialled jewelry, all by Sabyasachi. It was a powerful statement by the actress which went against existing societal norms and re-defined how a pregnant woman ought to look and style.

In other clothes that she donned for the shoot, she could be seen wearing a Gucci ‘Think/Thank’ cropped sweatshirt with a pair of wool trousers, a Michael Kors full sleeves olive knit green dress, which completely vibed with the ongoing winter season, and it came with tassels that graced the knees. She also wore a black tulle maxi dress with multi-colored prints from Dior with a few finger rings and burned the camera lens with his suave expressions and sultry looks.

While Anushka and modern-day public figures may make their maternity wear fashionable and chic, they are also changing the age-old thought processes, still stuck with something as natural as pregnancy, maternity fashion, and motherhood as a whole. In her unique way, Anushka has sent a message to all expecting moms that pregnancy can be as stylish as any other day in their lives. You have to go out there and express yourself. The photoshoot was yet another strong statement where she celebrated her pregnancy, and the lens aptly captured the added beauty and excitement of being a mother shortly on her face. There is no reason why a non-celebrity mother can’t celebrate her pregnancy. Anushka has also done one significant thing during pregnancy: not let her career take a back seat in this period. She has been going on sets for work and endorsements and has declared that she will be resuming work after delivering her baby. Taking a leaf out of Anushka’s book, soon to be mom Kareena Kapoor Khan is also living it up with designer wear flaunting her bump. Actress Kalki Koechlin adopted the water birth process for delivering her baby, a notion that is still very alien to traditional India. It has proven to be a very efficient way of delivery. Their careers were equally important to them, and they found innovative ways to balance their family and work life.
