“Mumma, can you tell me about Santa?” – Christmas and how to explain Santa to Kids
super easy
It is that time of the year again, the time of magical stories, cozy and warm decorations, family time, presents, and time for spreading love.
It is time for Christmas!!
Kids especially love this time with the ritual of writing their wishes to Santa, hanging the socks, making gingerbread man cooking and leaving them by the Christmas tree with cookies and receiving presents from Santa. And one of the most magical parts is opening the gifts from Santa Claus and finding the same present that they had wished for. Though this year it will be a bit different but nothing can affect the festive spirit.
When it comes to Christmas and Santa, some parents find it difficult to explain the whole thing to their kids about Santa. Since this tradition is close to many hearts and holds enamored memories, it is obvious to find it difficult to break to your kids that Santa is not real. But there is a way you can explain it to them and yet not take away the special place that Santa and Christmas hold’s in their hearts.
If your kids are under 4 then don’t worry, Christmas then for you should be all about Santa, reindeer, and Santa coming from the chimney 🙂 but if your kids have grown up and have a lot of questions for you then this may help.
Breaking The Truth Of Santa
Though it is hard, it is essential for the growth and understanding of your little ones. Some experts say that the best approach here is the ‘If you believe in Santa, Santa believes in you.’ Make them understand that Santa is the epitome of being kind and giving more to people in need.
Another approach that can get used is the ‘Be a Santa yourself’ approach. Tell them that even they can be the Santa for someone by being generous and kind and helping others in need. An excellent exercise to do here is to encourage them to donate things that they don’t use anymore. Please take out a few hours and do this exercise along with them. Make a box for donations and put things that you’ve wanted to donate. Encourage your little angels to do the same. You can even take them to some orphanage to give out gifts and make them feel that precious and incomparable feeling of making others smile.
One thing to keep in mind is that you need to stay calm and gentle during the conversation when you talk to them. Some kids may not understand it easily and might throw tantrums but don’t lose your cool. Handle them with patience and affection and do not push them to understand if they do not show the signs of understanding. It is a good idea to do the donation exercise and make them feel content inside. It might help them to understand the concept better.
When Is The Child Ready To Know About Santa?
Some kids start questioning this tradition and grow suspicious at a young age, like 5-6 years. But some kids take their time and enjoy the practice even when they’re close to 11-12 years of age. 6-7 years is the ideal stage because children start developing understanding and even question things often at this age.
But before you break it to them, make sure you talk about the importance of giving and being generous. It is a good idea to plant that seed in its little hearts and to make them see the tradition of Santa in that light. That way, it is a bit easier to explain the whole thing to them.
